Free Fishing Day
June 3
State residents -- and nonresidents, too -- can fish any inland water in the Granite State without a license on Saturday, June 3, 2006, New Hampshire's annual Free Fishing Day. Note that all season dates, limits and other fishing regulations must be observed. Take advantage of the day to get out your fishing gear and head for the river, lake or pond and try your luck. If you're already a licensed fishing fanatic, take advantage of the day to bring along your friends and family and get them hooked on the fun.

Class Day Parade
June 6
Come witness a city tradition as the students from Franklin's public schools march through downtown Franklin in the Class Day Parade. Parade kicks off at 1:00 in downtown Franklin.

Winnipesaukee Trail Walks
June 7
Come enjoy a bit of exercise and walk along the beautiful Winnipesauke Trail. If you’ve never walked on the trail it is quite lovely along the river. Come and bring a friend. We will meet at the Trestle Park lot at 10:00 am. Be sure to wear your walking shoes, spray on some bug repellent, and bring a bottle of water. This will be a lot of fun. Call the TRIP Center with questions. Hope to see you there. This will be a weekly event.

Mystery Lunch
June 8
Come join the TRIP Center for another surprise location! Only the driver knows where we’ll end up for lunch and sometimes even the driver doesn’t know. Sign up at the Center. Cost of van ride is $8.00 and it will be departing at 10:00 am, lunch is your responsibility.

Apollo Club Smorgasbord
June 10
This is always a popular event. The Apollo Club members make all of the food and they are great cooks. There is a wide variety to choose from and plenty to go around. Call Emily at 934-3363 to find out more or to purchase a ticket. This event will be held at the TRIP Center and will take place between 5:00 and 6:30. Adult tickets cost $7.50 and children get in for $3.00. You won’t want to miss it.

Weirs Beach Trip Sponsored by the TRIP Center

We’re taking a trip to Laconia to sit by the water, stroll the boardwalk, and enjoy lunch at one of the many restaurants there. The window shopping is wonderful so hop on the van. The cost is $8.00 for the ride and lunch is your responsibility. The van will be leaving at 9:00 am.

Franklin’s Next Step - Brainstorming

Everyone is invited, welcomed and ENCOURAGED to participate! We are fortunate to have been chosen from a very competitive state-wide application process to be visited by a team of professional & experienced designers, planners, engineers, architects and landscape architects who will examine the ideas from the Franklin community for the downtown mill area, put those ideas into pictures, and help devise action steps and proposed funding for the future revitalization of downtown. This "Plan NH Charrette" will be an interactive planning and design session held at the Franklin Opera House beginning in the late afternoon & early evening. "Treasure Reading" Summer Reading Program
June 19
The Franklin Public Library begins its' "Treasure Reading" Summer Reading Program. Children of all ages can sign up for the Reading Club, starting Monday, June 19 and any day thereafter. Each child will receive a bookmark and a reading chart to record the books they read (or books read to them) over the summer. Also, the Library has a summer of fun events planned, pick up an event calendar at the Circulation Desk.

Eddie Kirkland at Mojalaki

New this season will be our monthly Blues Nights! Starting in June, House Rockin’ Productions will be bringing monthly blues talents to Mojalaki. On June 20th, Eddie Kirkland will be playing! Down East Clam Bake

Enjoy a delicious clam bake including lobster, steamers, corn on the cob, chowder, and more. Chicken may be substituted for lobster. Mohegan Sun Casino

Let’s enjoy a day of gambling at the beautiful Mohegan Sun Casino. Even if you don’t gamble the casino has much to offer in the way of shopping, museums, restaurants, and more. Offset the damage of Traumatic Events -- psychological, physical and sexual abuse. 3. Undo the consequences of “Holes in Roles” -- fissures and fractures in family systems that one tries to fill by sacrificing one's own well-being by taking on the roles of absent or missing family members. Join us for a three day workshop. The fee for a three day workshop is $425 with a $170 deposit. There are usually 12-14 structure participants per workshop. All are welcome to attend the monthly meeting of the Franklin School Board.  Meetings are held the third Monday of each month in the Franklin High School Library at 7:00 p.m. For a copy of the agenda prior to the meeting, stop by the SAU #18 Office on the Franklin High School campus.  Your attendance and input is welcome and encouraged!

The monthly meeting of the Franklin Planning Board takes place the fourth Wednesday of each month in the Franklin City Council Chambers at 7:00 p.m., otherwise known as the Franklin Opera House.

Franklin Heritage Commission

Heritage Commission will have its monthly meeting the second Thursday of every month at 6:00 pm on the 2nd floor of the Franklin Public Library. Please come to learn or help out. Strong Women

LRGHealthcare sponsors Strong Women Program at Pines Community Center, Northfield. This is a Nationally recognized strength training program for women taught by Melissa Rizzo, Community Educator at Franklin Regional Hospital. The class uses hand and ankle weights along with balance activities to increase strength, agility, and balance. Women of all ages are welcome to attend. The class meets twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9:15-10:15am. The program is run in 10-week sessions. The next session will begin on Tuesday, May 2nd. There is a $35.00 fee for first time participants, returning participants pay only $15.00 per session. Circle of Parents

Circle of Parents is a parenting support group that meets every Wednesday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Franklin United Methodist Church at 88 Franklin St. in Franklin.  The group is designed to encourage parent leadership and develop parenting skills in a non-judgmental and supportive atmosphere. Moderated by a skilled facilitator, the group follows the national model of "sharing ideas, sharing support" where topics of discussion can be anything related to raising kids, such as discipline techniques, school behaviors and performance, youth culture and health and safety. Parents decide the topics, lead the discussions and are involved with group decision-making. The support group is free and childcare is provided.  Anyone seeking information about this group should call Joan Valk at 934-4885.

“Taking Life in Control” Support Group

“Taking Life in Control” is a support group for cancer survivors or anyone who is dealing with the diagnosis of cancer. Family, friends and new participants are always welcome. No advance registration is necessary.  Meetings take place the first and third Wednesday of the month from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Oncology waiting room at LRGH.

Open Basketball

Join the TRIP Center for a new weekly program beginning on Wednesdays at 12:15 p.m. Listen to cassettes of all the old radio shows like The Shadow, Lights Out, and The Inner Sanctum Mysteries. We also have an extensive collection of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and more. This will bring back great memories for some people and we encourage people who have never heard the classic radio shows to join us too! Refreshments will be served and this is open to the public.

Free Intro to Computer Class

Join this 2-week class that starts Tuesday, August 22 and runs through August 31, meeting every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30pm - 8:30pm. Thanks SAVINA HARTWELL FREE MEMORIAL CONCERTS Every Sunday during July & August,2006, enjoy the free Savina Hartwell Memorial concert series at the Tilton Island Park. There‘ll be a different band performing every Sunday. You‘re invited to bring the family, a chair or blanket and enjoy the music! Refreshments are available. No alcoholic beverages, please. The Franklin Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for the following summer programs: Summer Playground Program, Summer Teen Program, Swim Lessons, Golf Lessons, Archery Lessons, Art Program and the Counselor In Training Program. Beginning this month, you’ll be able to book your tee times ONLINE! That’s right! By going to our homepage at
www.mojalaki.com you’ll see a link which will take you to our online tee time reservation page. From there you’ll be able to book tee times up to a week in advance. It’s just another way for us to make it more convenient for you to play at Mojo!

Curt Mahoney is back as our golf instructor at Mojalaki. He will also be working in the pro shop. Curt is booking lessons right now and there’s still time to sign up for his adult golf clinics. Other Community Events Seeking Volunteers

The TRIP Center is in need of people who have computer knowledge and skills to assist us in getting our greatly needed computer lab up and running. We also need someone to teach classes to our seniors when the computer lab is complete.  If you have the time to volunteer your expertise and knowledge, please call the Center at 934-4151 and ask for Nancy.

Twin Rivers Interfaith Food Pantry continues to serve 7 local towns. They are in need of Volunteers to help out at the Food Pantry, pick up food at several locations (a large truck is need for USDA food deliveries once a month), fundraising, etc. Please call Rev Randall Scheri at 286-8780 or Dennis Dyer 296-3935.
